Providence man charged in Freetown crash

FREETOWN, Mass. (WLNE) — A Providence man has been charged after police said A motor vehicle crossed the center line and collided head-on with another in Assonet in April.

A 68-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries in the accident.

According to police, he still has a long road to recovery ahead of him.

26-year-old Anthony Flores was arrested for OUI resulting in serious bodily injury, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

Officials said they received a call about a two-car collision near the Stop & Shop Distribution Center on April 20 around 5:40 p.m.

Upon arrival, emergency services discovered two vehicles that had been severely damaged in a head-on collision.

Flores, the driver of one of the vehicles, was trapped in his vehicle and had to be freed with the “claws of life.”

Both drivers were transported by Freetown Fire-Rescue to St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford.

Police believe Flores' vehicle crossed the center line at a high rate of speed and hit the Plymouth Roadrunner head-on.

“Every time we get behind the wheel, the decisions we make can have profound and sometimes devastating consequences. We urge everyone to drive responsibly to prevent such tragedies in our community,” Police Chief Scott Rose said in a statement.
