Fact Check: Viral Kidnapping Video Comes From Egypt, Not Bengaluru

Vishvas News during its investigation found that the claim about the viral girl kidnapping video is false. The video does not come from India, but from Egypt.

New Delhi (Vishvas News). A video is going viral on social media in which two people can be seen kidnapping two girls. Social media users shared the video claiming that it shows a kidnapping in Bengaluru by Muslim men.

Vishvas News investigated and found this claim to be false. The video does not come from India, but from Egypt.

What goes viral?

Facebook page BS Bisht posted this video on September 28 and claimed: “See with your own eyes how Hindu girls are made to disappear by jihadi demons. “Karnataka, Bangalore – Watch jihadists kidnap Hindu girls in elevator by making them smell chloroform”. After knocking them out in the elevator, they put the two girls straight into the car and drove off. The kidnapped girls and women are never found. If you want to save your girls, inform them about the evil deeds of these demons. Your girls must pay the price of your false secularism and pseudo-fraternity by giving their lives. Jihadists made 32,000 Hindu girls disappear in Kerala in this way.”

Investigation

To verify the viral claim, we searched the keyframes of the viral video on Google Lens. We found a screenshot of this video in a news report by Jordan-based news portal Al Bawaba on December 20, 2023. According to the news, this incident happened from Egypt.

Based on these tips, we conducted a keyword search and found several reports on this topic.

According to a news article published on December 21 on the Egyptian news portal Al-Masry Al-Youm, the mother of two girls, a resident of Nasr city in Egypt, claimed in her complaint that her ex-husband was kidnapping along with two others one of her daughters violently. The other daughter jumped out of the car to save her life. For family reasons, the girls lived with their father until 2022. But after that, the mother had gained custody of both daughters and the girls were with her.

We have received further follow-up reports on this topic, which you can read here.

We also found a tweet from the Egyptian Interior Ministry's official X account posted on December 20, 2023. The tweet's caption said the girl's mother had filed a complaint at a police station in Cairo, claiming her ex-husband was responsible for the incident. He tried to leave the country with their daughters.

We then conducted a keyword search to check whether a similar incident had occurred in Bengaluru. However, we did not find any relevant news stories.

To confirm this, we spoke to K Nirupama, Associate Editor of Asianet, who works in Bangalore. She confirmed that this incident did not originate from Bangalore.

Finally, we scanned the BS Bisht Facebook page where the video was shared. It was found that about 2.5 thousand users follow this page
