My morning routine: Trey Yingst, television journalist

Washing my face is a nice way to wake myself up.

I make sure to do this every morning. Skin care is crucial. I often wear makeup on TV and find that if I don't remove it properly and don't do my skin care routine, it can really ruin my skin.

I like to mentally prepare myself for the day ahead.

When I'm feeling less motivated or a little tired, I take a cold shower to get my blood pumping. I also make a list of the things I need to do that day. Over the last few years I have become more disciplined in the mornings. I think about my plans for the day and what I want to accomplish.

I check and add to my “to-do” list on Notion. You must have clear intentions and goals for the day. How can you hit a target if you don't know what you're aiming at?

I'm trying to make my bed.

Most of the time I do this…if I'm staying in a hotel for work, I don't have to make the bed. When I'm home, it really depends on how quickly I have to rush out of the house. When there's big news, I don't have time.

I'm actually not a big breakfast person.

Some days I fast in the morning. This makes me feel more energetic. When I have breakfast it's usually an omelette and some fruit.

But I need a strong coffee.

Double espresso, no milk or sugar. Black. On average I drink two to three per day.

Fitness is extreme
important for me.

A healthy body and mind are the key to success. When I train with my cameraman, we start in the morning. When I'm alone, I go at night. I also like running in the middle of the night. The days in the Middle East are too hot. I recently got back into climbing. It's a great workout.
