Frankie Valli Defends Viral Performance Video, Loves Singing at 90

The 90-year-old musician is defending himself after a recent concert went viral and caused some concern among fans

On the weekend A video of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons went viral on X (formerly Twitter). It wasn't a look back at the peak of their career, but rather a more recent clip of the group performing “Bye, Bye, Baby” on their ongoing farewell tour. “Anyone who continues to send Frankie Valli on stage at this point is committing elder abuse,” one social media user wrote. Valli, who is 90 years old, admittedly seems a bit distant in the video. But the musician responded to the viral moment and defended his personal decision to continue performing even as he gets older.

“I have to laugh when I ask in the comments if someone is forcing me to go on stage. “No one has ever forced me to do anything I didn’t want to do,” Valli said in a statement People. He added that a Four Seasons concert in 2024 is based on all the lessons they have learned over the past six decades. This offered something of an explanation for what happened in that particular viral scene, in which the group's other singers took the lead over Valli. “The Four Seasons sound has always been about layering vocals and instruments,” he said. “I sing, I have singers who sing, great arrangements… everything.”

Valli has been touring and performing for most of his life. He doesn't understand why he's expected to quit now. “I know there's been a lot of talk about me on the internet lately, so I wanted to set the record straight,” he shared. “I'm blessed to be 90 years old and still doing what I love to do, and as long as I'm able and the audience wants to see me, I'll be out there performing like I always do.” absolutely love what I do. And I know we put on a great show because our fans still come out in droves and the show still rocks.”

On trend

Valli currently has concerts scheduled with the Four Seasons through April 2025 as part of the Last Encores tour.

Concluding his statement, Valli shared: “I plan on doing shows and delivering the great Four Seasons sound for as long as possible. Like that line in Jersey Boys, I'm like that bunny on TV that just keeps going and going and going. Chasing the music.”
