A minor incident at Orio al Serio airport in Bergamo has forced Atalanta to change its travel plans and fly from Verona to Gelsenkirchen.

Serie A club Atalanta had to change its travel plans for a Champions League game against Shakhtar Donetsk due to a minor incident at Bergamo Airport on Tuesday.

As Sky Sport Italia reports, the Nerazzurri were due to start in Orio al Serio today, but had to postpone their trip and start elsewhere.

In fact, Bergamo airport will remain closed until 5:00 p.m. local time after a plane tire exploded upon landing this morning. The flight took off from Barcelona and fortunately the incident had no impact on the passengers.

However, it damaged the breakaway, forcing Atalanta to change its plans and make an additional 116 km journey to Verona to catch a 4:30 p.m. local time flight to Gelsenkirchen.

There were problems on the pitch and Atalanta full-back Matteo Ruggeri suffered a minor knee injury and will not be available for Wednesday's Shakhtar game.
