Three women arriving on flights were arrested on drug charges in two incidents at the Juneau airport

Three women were arrested in two separate incidents at Juneau International Airport last week involving suspected drug smuggling on flights from Seattle to Juneau, Juneau police said Monday.

The first incident occurred on Tuesday, Sept. 24, when Joni Land, 41, of Juneau, was confronted by investigators from Southeast Alaska Cities Against Drugs after disembarking a flight, according to a JPD information release. Officers found drugs with an estimated street value of $20,600, including 99.33 grams of fentanyl powder, 14.31 grams of blue fentanyl pills marked M/30 (approximately 150 pills), 28.62 grams of cocaine and 5.34 grams of methamphetamine .

Land was arrested on two counts of second-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance, one count of third-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance and one count of fourth-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance. She was taken to Lemon Creek Correctional Center.

The second incident occurred on Friday, Sept. 27, when two women exited a plane, according to a second JPD information release.

“The women exhibited behavior consistent with that of persons under the influence of controlled substances,” the press release said. “A piece of a Xanax pill and a suspected fentanyl pill were located near where one of the women was standing.”

During a subsequent investigation, officers found 598 grams of blue fentanyl pills marked M/30 (approximately 5,200 pills), 80.55 grams of cocaine, 97.43 grams of methamphetamine and 188.22 grams of heroin. The drugs have an estimated street value of $155,700.

Tanya Chapman, 50, of Washington, was arrested for second-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance and two counts of fourth-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance. Holli Bell, 44, of Washington, was arrested on two counts of second-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance, two counts of third-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance and four counts of fourth-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance.

Chapman and Bell were both taken to LCCC.
