Oregon man accused of spitting on and biting prison guard

An Oregon man is facing charges for allegedly spitting on and biting a Lincoln County Detention Center officer.

Danford Winston Hendrix, 31, pleaded not guilty Monday in district court to felony charges of assault on a peace officer and misdemeanor battery.

Court officials said Hendrix was initially arrested and taken to jail following a public nuisance complaint. These charges were dropped.

According to county Deputy Brandon Huff's probable cause statement, he was called to the detention center at approximately 8:50 p.m. on September 8 to investigate an alleged attack on a prison guard.

Huff allegedly watched a video that showed Hendrix biting a female police officer's hand. Huff noted that the bite pierced a glove and penetrated her skin, resulting in a bleeding wound that required medical attention.

Huff reported the bite was the result of Hendrix allegedly spitting on the detention officer.

Hendrix's next hearing is scheduled for October 21.

A felony conviction can result in a minimum of two or a maximum of 10 years in prison in the Montana State Prison.
