Rich Homie Quan's Family Releases Posthumous Video for “Song Cry” | News

Rich Homie Quans Family released an emotional new music video for the late rapper's posthumous single “Song Cry.”

Led by Marcell JBThe video features scenes from Quan's parties and in the studio, as well as heartfelt footage from his funeral, which took place at World Changers Church International on Tuesday, September 17th. The clip also features appearances from Boosie Badazz And DC Young Fly and behind-the-scenes moments from Quan's interview with Funny Marco. It ends on a powerful note: family and friends rapping his songs at the post-funeral gathering.

In the song, Quan can be heard reflecting on the emotional toll of witnessing a friend's death, dealing with betrayal, and masking his pain by smoking weed. It starts with: “Yes, this is personal. I know a lot of my songs, you kind of don’t take them seriously, but I want you to hear this one louder.”

As BET reports, Quan, whose real name is Dequantes Devontay Lamar, died on Thursday, September 5, in Atlanta, Georgia, at the age of 34. His cause of death is currently unknown, but his brother found it. The “Lifestyle” hitmaker is unresponsive at home.

“On Thursday, September 5, 2024, the Lamar family lost our beloved son, brother, father and friend. Dequantes Devontay Lamar, known to the world as Rich Homie Quan, proudly hailed from the great city of Atlanta, Georgia and represented the A's as he and his music traveled the world,” a Statement read by his family. “While he leaves an undeniable hole in our hearts, we take comfort in knowing that his music and his triumphant spirit live on. Quan's legacy will forever be enshrined as the soundtrack of our lives. And we are grateful for that. Details of the celebration of life will be announced soon. Thank you everyone for your kind words and support during this difficult time.”
