Kinston police arrest a local man for drunk driving and resisting arrest after a hit-and-run

On Monday, September 30, 2024, at approximately 8:10 p.m., officers from the Kinston Police Department's D-Squad responded to a report of a hit-and-run accident.

When officers arrived at the scene, they made contact with 31-year-old Charlie Sutton of Kinston, who was identified as a participant in the crash involving a second unknown vehicle. During the investigation, Sutton showed signs of impairment and attempted to leave the scene. Officers intervened and took him into custody.

As the investigation continued, Sutton was formally arrested for driving while impaired (DWI). After being transported to KPD headquarters for processing, Sutton attempted to flee from officers but was quickly apprehended. He was then taken to the Lenoir County Jail and charged with drunken driving and resisting an officer.

In addition to these charges, officers served Sutton with an arrest warrant for an unrelated incident.
