Woman charged in North Myrtle Beach traffic accident. Drunk driving hurts bonding because she drinks alcohol at home

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – The woman who authorities say drove drunk and caused a fatal crash in North Myrtle Beach in 2023 is back behind bars.

The Horry Couty Sheriff's Office booked 63-year-old Nancy Bishop into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center for a violation of house arrest procedure.

A sheriff's office report shows officers searched Bishop's home on August 26, 2024, as part of a compliance review.

According to the report, officers found “several bottles of alcohol” during the check.

Bishop is charged with driving under the influence of alcohol causing serious bodily injury and driving under the influence of alcohol causing death.

The charges stem from a fatal accident on Father's Day weekend in 2023 in which Bishop drove a black Lexus into oncoming traffic on the Robert Edge Parkway bridge and hit a white Nissan head-on, according to North Myrtle Beach police.

According to authorities, 41-year-old Thomas Brown died in the accident while his wife and three children were taken to the hospital in the car.

Bishop was also hospitalized after the accident.

When North Myrtle Beach police examined Bishop's car, they found an open container of wine and a cup in the cup holder.

It was revealed at a hearing that she reportedly had a blood alcohol content of 0.22, almost three times the legal limit.

The prosecutor said Bishop was previously convicted of drunken driving resulting in injuries in Massachusetts in 2016. The prosecutor added that her license is suspended in Massachusetts.

Bishop turned himself in nearly two months after the crash. She spent just four hours in jail before being released on $100,000 bail.

She was under house arrest with GPS monitoring before breaking her bond.

Public records show Bishop has a mandatory appearance scheduled for next week.
