State Police Arrest Pomfret Man Accused of Abusing Baby – NBC Connecticut

Connecticut state police have arrested a 22-year-old Pomfret man accused of abusing a baby.

Zachary Beausoleil was charged with risk of injury to a minor and ordered to have no contact with the victim and no unsupervised contact with minor children, the warrant states.

The investigation began on August 4, 2023, when a 1-month-old girl was brought to the emergency room at Day Kimball Hospital because she had not eaten for a while.

According to the arrest warrant, medical staff discovered multiple brain hemorrhages and multiple rib fractures in varying degrees of healing. The baby also suffered a traumatic brain injury as well as a ruptured liver and other injuries, police said.

The little girl was flown to UMass Memorial Hospital due to the extent of her injuries and investigators from the State Police Eastern District Major Crime Squad were called in to investigate.

When police spoke with Beausoleil, he told them that around 5 a.m. on August 1, 2023, he woke up to the baby's cry and fell while holding him after stepping on broken glass, but did not see any injuries and thought she was fine, the arrest warrant states.

Three days later, the baby wasn't eating and was acting “a little unremarkable,” so they called the hospital and were told to bring the baby in.

As police investigated, they checked Beausoleil's cell phone and said they found web searches starting July 16, 2023, a few weeks after the baby came home after birth, that linked to broken ribs in infants and broken ribs in infants An arrest warrant says the infants and the arrest were related.

On August 3, 2023, he examined “a fluid-filled lump on the baby’s head,” the warrant states.

On December 6, 2023, Beausoleil's lawyer provided police with a statement from his client. The redacted version states that there were complications with the birth of the baby and arguments.

He also said he could not understand how the baby had suffered her injuries, and it was only weeks later that he concluded that someone else may have caused the injuries.

Beausoleil was held on a $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Danielson Superior Court on Tuesday.
