Man arrested after home hit with more than 20 shots

CAMPBELL COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) – A man has been arrested after at least 20 shots were fired inside an occupied home, according to the Campbell County Sheriff's Office.

Shortly after midnight on the morning of September 20, 2024, officers were called to the 11000 block of Ward Road in Rustburg for reports of shots fired into a home. According to the sheriff's office, three people were inside the home, which suffered “significant damage” from the gunfire.

The investigation led investigators to Jolon Devon Carthorne, Jr., 22, of Lynchburg, an acquaintance of one of the residents. Officials say Carthorne was involved in an incident with one of the residents about 12 hours earlier.

Carthorne was arrested and is being held without bail at the Lynchburg Adult Detention Center. The charges include burglary, kidnapping, shooting into an inhabited dwelling and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
