Decorah man charged with attempted murder after incident at Freeport home

DECORAH, Iowa (KCRG) – A Decorah man is charged with attempted murder after he allegedly violently attacked a woman at a home in Freeport last month.

Winneshiek County law enforcement was called to the home in Freeport on September 21st around 11:30 p.m.

Two women called police and said 22-year-old Hunter Youngblood had attacked them.

A criminal complaint states that the 911 call heard both women screaming as Youngblood forced his way into the home.

According to investigators, it all started when Youngblood attacked one of the women in a vehicle, punching her multiple times in the face and upper body.

When they arrived at the 170th Avenue home, another woman confronted Youngblood after noticing the blood visible on the victim's dress.

According to law enforcement, Youngblood then began strangling the other woman on the couch. Youngblood then allegedly told her he would kill her.

When the first victim left the house to call emergency services, Youngblood chased her. The victim managed to return to the apartment and lock the front door.

However, Youngblood managed to get back into the house through the back door while the women tried to keep the door closed.

When he returned to the house, he allegedly threw one of the victims to the ground and slammed her head onto the floor.

Officers said they arrived a short time later and found Youngblood lying on the ground with what appeared to be self-inflicted stab wounds to his stomach.

Investigators said the victims' statements were corroborated by the visible physical injuries and the audio recordings of the 911 call.

Officials have not said whether additional charges are pending in this case.
