New details emerge in FMR's court hearing. Sheriff is charged with murder, judge

MORGAN COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) – Former Letcher County Sheriff Mickey Stines appeared in court again Tuesday.

Stines is accused of killing District Judge Kevin Mullins. Last week, Stines pleaded not guilty to murder during his arraignment hearing.

A preliminary hearing was held Tuesday in Morgan County District Court.

The prosecutor asked KSP a few questions and then showed a video of the shooting, which showed Judge Mullins being shot and falling behind his desk in his office.

A detective said the shooter was Stines. The detective said after the shooting, Stines appeared calm and said, “Treat me fairly.”

Under cross-examination, the detective testified that Stines attempted to call his daughter from his and Judge Mullins' phones and that Stines' daughter's cell phone number was on Judge Mullins' phone.

On Monday, Stines announced in a statement through his attorney that he was retiring as sheriff.

This is a developing story.
