Arsenal vs Paris Saint-Germain: Champions League โ€“ live | Champions League

Important events

10 minutes: Calafiori shows his skills on the other side of the pitch. He is almost turned over by Hakimi on the right but extends his leg to allow a corner before a dangerous cross can be delivered. From the resulting set piece, Nuno Mendes fires a wild shot miles from goal.

9 minutes: The exciting Calafiori strides through the middle and passes to Saka on his right. Saka moves back into the penalty area and aims a curler at the top left corner. Just too high. Just a little too wide wide. The first shot of the evening in anger sails over the crossbar.

8 minutes: … but otherwise Arsenal win the majority of the 50:50 games. Most of the game is played in the PSG half, although nowhere near their goal. Not yet.

share

6 minutes: Saka falls asleep 30 meters from his own goal and has the ball taken away by Barcola, who should have made a speculative attack from the edge of the penalty area but pauses in the hope that a better option will present itself. There is no better option. Arsenal is clearing its ranks.

4 minutes: Luckily, Donnarumma can carry on. He gets up and starts the game again.

3 minutes: Raya goes wide in the middle. Very long. Donnarumma gets to the edge of his penalty area and asserts himself confidently, but is hit by the outstretched leg of Martinelli, who had the right to fight for the ball. The goalkeeper holds out, then the doctors come to look at the thigh that has kept him out the last three games.

2 minutes: During the opening discussions everything was a bit bumpy. Hectic and fast. Then Saka and Havertz threaten to penetrate behind PSG on the right side, but after an exchange of passes the offside flag goes up.

Kick-off for PSG. The 3,000-strong away team supports the raucous style.

The teams are outside. Arsenal in the famous red and white, PSG in the first choice blue. A crackling atmosphere in north London, although the rain fell with extreme bias. Things are about to begin as soon as the fists are clenched, coins are thrown and Bukayo Saka receives the best pennant.

There is already great news for Ligue 1 this evening. Brest has just won 4-0 at Red Bull Salzburg and is at the top of the Big Table for at least a few hours. Some say this: They have never won a major national trophy! Rob Smyth has the details as well as news about Stuttgart's 1-1 draw with Sparta Prague as part of tonight's Clockwatch.

Pennant clock. There's nothing wrong with that at all…

…until you see how PSG have taken things up a few notches. Poor Marquinhos gets the bum deal at the merchandise swap tonight.

The MegaLeague as it looks after a round of play. That's pretty sweet, isn't it?

Mikel Arteta speaks to Amazon Prime. โ€œVery excited…looking forward to it…the kind of scenario we want to be involved in… [the starting team] is the right fit…lots of quality…physicality…scoring threat…everything we're looking for… [PSG coach Luis Enrique is] a very tough opponent…it's a big test for us…we have to play with a lot of courage and determination…take advantage of the crowd…make it a very difficult place.โ€

Arsenal and PSG don't have too much history together, but what there is between them benefits the Gunners. Back in 1994, the clubs met in the semi-finals of the European Cup Winners' Cup: Ian Wright and David Ginola ensured a 1-1 win in Paris, and the popular Kevin Campbell scored the only goal in the second leg. Arsenal beat Parma in the final. Fast forward to 2016-17 and two games in the Champions League groups: In Paris it was 1-1 again, Edinson Cavani scored after just 44 seconds, Alexis Sรกnchez equalized, Marco Verratti and Olivier Giroud were given their marching orders in stoppage time . The game at the Emirates ended 2-2, with Cavani and Giroud finding the right nets and Verratti and Alex Iwobi scoring their own goals. Both teams reached the knockout stages and PSG coach Unai Emery moved to Arsenal a year later.

Arsenal's starting XI – and their tweet doesn't lie – has the same name as in the 4-2 thrashing of Leicester City three days ago. Their new midfielder Mikel Merino has recovered from his injury and is sitting on the bench awaiting his debut for his new club. Ben White remains injured and missing.

There is no Ousmane Dembรฉlรฉ for PSG. Despite having scored four times in six Ligue 1 games so far this season, he is terrified. Luckily for the Parisians, Bradley Barcola has scored six out of six goals so far. Gianluigi Donnarumma returns in goal after missing the last three games with a thigh problem.

preamble

Arsenal could only manage a draw at Atalanta in their first game on the brand new mega-table of the Champions League. PSG, on the other hand, won 1-0 against Girona. But with seven games left to play – and no one really knows how it will turn out until then – they're hardly in the must-win zone. So is this a big game or not? Strictly speaking dramatically, no, not really. But it's still one of the giants of the English game against the leading side in France and it will feel good to win. Even though there is no real danger for either team tonight, we are still in devaluation territory. where the win coupled with an impressive performance bodes well for the long road ahead. Big game then? Big enough! Kick-off is at 8pm BST. It's on.
