Butler County student arrested after posting threats on social media

HAMILTON, Ohio (WXIX) – Another threat against a Tri-State school led to the arrest of a student.

Holli Hansel, a spokeswoman for Talawanda Schools, said the threat was made late Monday night and was being investigated throughout the night.

According to a Hamilton police report, 18-year-old Kenneth Cartwright is accused of posting a threat against Talawanda High School on Snapchat.

The report states that Cartwright “posted a picture of himself with the caption “Don’t come to school tomorrow, I’ll shoot the damn place up.”

Hansel confirmed that Cartwright is a student.

Although the threat was deemed unreliable, additional law enforcement was on campus Tuesday as a precaution, Hansel added.

“A threat of this nature is a very serious criminal offence. The school district will take all disciplinary action. This individual also faces serious criminal charges in Butler County,” she said.

Cartwright is currently behind bars at the Butler County Jail charged with making terroristic threats, a third-degree felony.

The 18-year-old joins the list of several other students recently arrested in the Tri-State for making threats at school or possessing weapons on school property.
