Man arrested in Cherokee Co. after altercation with sheriff's deputies

CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ala. (WBRC) – The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office says a Mentone man was arrested Monday morning, September 30, following a 10-hour standoff between authorities.

Officers were called to a residence on County Road 72 in Cloudland Township around 2 a.m. after a 911 call came in saying a man had vandalized another man's truck and was threatening to kill others.

When officers arrived, they attempted to make contact with the suspect, but authorities said the suspect saw them on surveillance cameras and threatened to kill them.

Officers say the suspect, 41-year-old Adam Atkinson of Mentone, eventually fled the apartment. He was later arrested in the nearby forest.

Deputies say Atkinson was armed with multiple firearms at the time of his arrest.

Atkinson was charged with first-degree terroristic threats, criminal mischief and resisting arrest.
