Hans Zimmer and Lorne Balfe are announced as co-composers for Dragon Age: The Veilguard

Today, Electronic Arts Inc. and BioWare announced that Oscar winner Hans Zimmer and Grammy winner Lorne Balfe have teamed up to compose the official soundtrack for Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Hans Zimmer has created iconic soundtracks such as The Lion King, Inception, Dune and Interstellar. Lorne Balfe has composed soundtracks for films such as Crying With Laughter, Pacific Rim Uprising and Top Gun: Maverick. Now they're working together to create a soundtrack for the upcoming fantasy game, set to release on October 31, 2024 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam, EA App and Epic Games Store.

Zimmer and Balfe worked closely with BioWare's development team to create a score that fits the world of Thedas. Fans can pre-order the official soundtrack album on iTunes and Amazon Music starting October 18th, with the official release of the soundtrack following on November 1st via Lakeshore Records. As a teaser, the main theme of Dragon Age: The Veilguard is now available to download and stream on all major music services including Spotify, iTunes and Deezer.

“One of our goals with the music for Dragon Age: The Veilguard was to create a strong connection between the world of Thedas and the various characters that inhabit that world,” says Cody Behiel, audio director for Dragon Age: The Veilguard . “We wanted to make sure that throughout the game's story, whether at its most epic or most intimate, players can feel how their actions connect to the personal relationships they've built. Working with Hans and Lorne took these ideas to a more emotional level than we thought possible, and I'm really excited for the players to experience it.”

While both Zimmer and Balfe are most likely known for their film soundtracks, they have both worked on video game soundtracks before. However, for Zimmer, this is the first video game soundtrack he has composed in almost ten years.

“Epic stories lend themselves to epic soundtracks, and the narrative tapestry that BioWare has woven in The Veilguard never left me lacking inspiration, be it in the game's moments of radiant heroism or its darkest emotional pitfalls. I’m proud to have shared the journey of working with Lorne and the entire design team to create the musical accompaniment for the latest Dragon Age adventure.”

It won't be long until Dragon Age: The Veilguard releases, and more and more new details about the game are being revealed as it prepares for its release on October 31st.
