Manchester City's Ilkay Gündogan, Phil Foden, Erling Haaland and James McAtee got on the scoresheet as the visitors beat Slovan Bratislava 4-0 on Tuesday to claim their first win of their Champions League campaign.

City, winners of the 2023 Champions League, have four points after two games after opening the season with a 0-0 draw at home to Inter Milan. Slovan's defeat follows a 5-1 loss to Celtic.

“Must give [Slovan] Respect,” Foden told TNT Sports. “It was difficult to break them down. The atmosphere was incredible.

“In the end we did the job and managed to find the space. On another night there could have been more goals, but we are happy with 4-0. After the draw.” [with Inter] We had to get the win, so we’re on the right track now.”

The Premier League champions positioned themselves in Slovan's half and peppered the home team with shots all night long.

Gundogan put City on the scoreboard in the eighth minute with his first goal since returning from a season at Barcelona. The German's shot from the edge of the penalty area deflected off Kyriakos Savvidis' leg and ended up in the net.

Foden, who scored 27 goals in all competitions last season, doubled City's lead with his first goal of the season in the 15th minute, picking up a pass from Jérémy Doku and firing the shot into the bottom corner.

Haaland scored his 42nd goal in Europe's top competition in the 58th minute, sprinting onto Rico Lewis' pass and then getting around goalkeeper Dominik Takac before firing into an empty net.

Haaland, who has scored 11 goals in all competitions this season, took his place on the bench two minutes later, his work done for the evening.

Foden threw a pass to McAtee in the 74th minute for his first ever City goal, capping a perfect evening for the visitors, who have now extended their unbeaten run in the Champions League to 25 games Record set with Man United from 2007 to 2009 under Sir Alex Ferguson. Guardiola's team was eliminated last year on penalties against eventual winners Real Madrid.

“I’m over the moon,” said McAtee, who joined City aged 11. “It’s something every kid dreams of, so it’s a dream come true.”

The result could have been far more one-sided in the one-sided game as City nullified Slovan with 28 shots, 14 of which were on target, including three that hit the target.
