Man accused of smuggling shotgun shells filled with methamphetamine into Philadelphia International Airport

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — A Columbia County, Pennsylvania, man was arrested Monday at Philadelphia International Airport for allegedly hiding methamphetamine in a converted shotgun shell.

Authorities say a TSA screening scanner alerted them that the man was hiding something under his clothing.

Investigators said they then stole a tampered shotgun shell with white powder from the man.

Philadelphia police later determined that the grenade contained methamphetamine.

“It is disappointing to see individuals attempting to hide items on themselves or in their carry-on luggage in order to conceal them. We don't look for drugs, but when we come across them, we alert law enforcement and let them handle it.” “The situation,” said Gerardo Spero, the TSA's federal security director for the airport.

Carrying shotgun shells and ammunition of any caliber through a security checkpoint is prohibited.

According to police, the man has since been arrested. His identity has not been revealed.
