Leaks show that the smartphone may lose the camera bar

As excitement for the Google Pixel 9 series wanes, attention is now shifting to the anticipated Google Pixel 9a.

After the global launch of the Pixel 9 last month, which brought four devices to market, rumors began circulating about a fifth, cheaper variant – the Pixel 9a.

CAD-based renderings of this budget-friendly model have surfaced online, giving enthusiasts their first look at the design.

The renders shared by popular tipster OnLeaks in collaboration with Android Headline show a sleek black version of the Pixel 9a that will likely feature a metal frame.

As can be seen from the design, the phone has a power button and volume rockers on the right side and a USB-C port and a speaker grill at the bottom. Similar to its flagship sibling, the Pixel 9a is said to have a flat display with a punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera.

At first glance, the Pixel 9a appears to be almost identical to the standard Pixel 9. However, there is a clear difference on the back. Unlike newer Pixel models that feature Google's signature “camera bar” (a raised module for the camera array), the Pixel 9a appears to forgo this design element. Instead, the renders show a horizontally aligned, cylindrical camera module next to an LED flash.

The familiar Google “G” branding remains prominently centered on the back of the device.

Another possible change could be in the display. The Pixel 9a may have slightly larger bezels compared to its predecessors, which could be of interest to users who prefer a more solid bezel around the screen.

Although Google hasn't confirmed any details about the Pixel 9a yet, the emergence of leaks suggests an official launch could be on the horizon.
