Rich Homie Quan's cause of death: accidental drug overdose

According to the Fulton County Medical Examiner, fentanyl, alprazolam, codeine, promethazine and THC were found in the artist's body

Rich Homie Quan's cause of death was an accidental drug overdose, the Fulton County coroner's office announced Tuesday People.

According to the coroner's report, fentanyl, alprazolam, codeine, promethazine and THC were found in the rapper's body. Quan, whose real name was Dequantes Devontay Lamar, died on September 5 at the age of 34.

Lamar was found lifeless in his Atlanta home by his girlfriend. Police officers found no wrongdoing and stated that “Mr. Lamar did not appear to be alert, conscious or breathing,” and said they were told he had “no medical or underlying condition.”

His family paid tribute to him days after his death. “Dequante's Devontay Lamar, known to the world as Rich Homie Quan, proudly hailed from the great city of Atlanta, Georgia and represented the world as he and his music traveled the world,” read the statement shared with became People. “Quan’s legacy will forever be enshrined as the soundtrack of our lives. And we are grateful for that.”

The artist created Atlanta rap hits in the 2010s as a solo artist and member of Rich Gang. His breakout song, the 2013 hit “Type of Way”, reached the Billboard Top 50. The track was remixed by Lil Wayne and Meek Mill, which increased his popularity in the industry. Lamar also collaborated with Young Thug and Birdman, formed the supergroup Rich Gang, and created the popular Billboard Hot 100 tracks “Lifestyle” and “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh).”

As the beloved artist was laid to rest at his funeral on September 17, the Atlanta City Council announced that “today…” [is] Rich Homie Quan Memorial Day in our beautiful city.”
