Trial of Lincoln man accused of ramming vehicles with skid steer loader

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A man was charged Tuesday in connection with a skid steer shooting spree in southeast Lincoln.

Lancaster District Court Judge Darla Ideus presided over the trial of 36-year-old Samuel Peyrot of Lincoln. In a trial, the judge – not a jury – decides the verdict.

Peyrot has pleaded not guilty and his lawyers are defending themselves on an insanity basis.

Court documents allege that on Jan. 14, Peyrot drove a skid steer into vehicles at the U stop near 73rd Street and Pine Lake Road.

Police said he then drove to 70th Street and Nebraska Parkway and caused more damage.

He rammed a liquor store and hit several vehicles in the Home Depot parking lot, according to police.

A man in one of the vehicles suffered minor injuries, police said.

Police said when they arrived, Peyrot drove the skid steer loader into a patrol car.

The officer got out and took Peyrot into custody.

In total, Peyrot caused $114,000 in damages, according to court documents.

He is charged with assault on an officer, second-degree assault and five counts of felonious assault.

Ideus will consider the prosecution and defense arguments and announce the verdict at a later date.

The next hearing in the case is scheduled for November 8th.
