Epilepsy drug could ease severe sleep apnea symptoms, a new study shows

A new study presented at the European Respiratory Society conference in Vienna suggests that the popular epilepsy drug sulthiam may ease the symptoms of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). According to researchers behind the new study, patients taking sulthiame experienced a reduction in the frequency of pauses in breathing during sleep. Patients also noted an increase in oxygen levels in the blood.

Researchers behind the study argue that Sulthiame could be a game-changer for people with obstructive sleep apnea who cannot tolerate the use of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machines.
