Minor Wappinger arrested for making threats on social media

TOWN OF WAPPINGER – New York State Police arrested a minor from Wappingers Falls for a social media threat after being alerted by the FBI Hudson Valley Safe Streets Task Force. The investigation began early on October 1, 2024 and police identified and arrested the individual a few hours later.

The unspecified school threat on TikTok was reported by the FBI and state police were notified.

The investigation revealed that the threat came from the Wappinger area and investigators were able to determine the exact address where they arrested the minor on the threat of gang rape. The juvenile was issued an appearance ticket for a future appearance in Dutchess County Family Court.

Wappinger Central School District Superintendent Dr. Dwight Bonk, sent at least two messages to the district's parents and caregivers alerting them to the incident. In the first communication, Bonk said, “It is important that our students do this.” Report threats, do not repost threatsespecially when it comes to random and vague social media posts online.”

Another Mid-Hudson News article will be published later this week and will feature Dr. Bonks include suggestions and requests to prevent incidents such as unspecified threats.
