A man has been arrested in connection with a series of overnight arson attacks on the roof of a post office, according to SAPD

SAN ANTONIO – A 20-year-old man was arrested overnight in connection with a series of arsons and possible robberies, according to San Antonio police.

According to police, the fires began around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday on Ira Lee Road near Austin Highway on Northeas Side after authorities received a call about a vehicle on fire outside a home.

As firefighters worked to contain the flames, an SAPD helicopter overhead noticed that the fence behind the homes was burning, police said. A person in a car drove by and told emergency responders that a brush fire had broken out further down Ira Lee Road.

SAPD said fire investigators were called to the scene at that time.

After crews had contained the second fire, another call came in about burning vehicles at a depot on the same street. According to police, firefighters found three burning cars in the yard.

According to reports, around 12:40 a.m. Wednesday, a police officer saw a man, suspected in connection with a robbery in the area, walking behind a business in the 2000 block of Austin Highway.

Police said the man fell several times as he ran from roof to roof of nearby homes before getting to the roof of the post office in the 1900 block of Austin Highway.

The man was arrested by police at around 2:25 a.m. but was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure for injuries sustained during the pursuit and subsequent arrest.

According to police, the suspect was responsible for four fires in total.

Police said the man will be charged with arson.
