'Better Man' review: Robbie Williams is played by a CGI monkey in the weirdest biopic ever [Fantastic Fest]

Not since the Wachowskis came out on top with “Cloud Atlas” has so much money been spent on a film that so strongly hints at a potential fiasco. To describe “Better Man” to someone who hasn't seen it is to see their face contort in disbelief because you're definitely teasing them.

It's entirely believable that the director of The Greatest Showman would make a biopic about the life of English pop star Robbie Williams. And it's also a full-fledged musical, with the characters singing songs outside of the concert sequences. It's also believable, if shocking, to learn that the film is stylized to the point of utter absurdity and that its musical sequences defy all the laws of cinema and reality, often dragging the film into the realm of pure, literal fantasy.
