Marietta man among five dead in plane crash at Wright Brothers National Memorial Park

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – A Marietta man was among five people killed in a plane crash in a North Carolina national park, according to the National Park Service.

On Saturday, the Cirrus SR-22 single-engine plane crashed into the forest at Wright Brothers National Memorial First Flight Airport, the park service said. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash, which killed all of the plane's passengers.

On Tuesday, the National Park Service identified the dead:

  • 44-year-old Matthew Arthur Fassnacht of Marietta, Georgia
  • 31-year-old Shashwat Ajit Adhikari of Silver Spring, Maryland
  • 43-year-old Jason Ray Campbell of Southern Pines, North Carolina
  • 39-year-old Kate McAllister Neely of Southern Pines, North Carolina
  • An unknown 6 year old

Eyewitnesses said the plane crashed while attempting to land at the airport around 5 p.m. According to the National Park Service, it caught fire and had to be extinguished by crews from several local fire departments.

The Wright Brothers National Memorial was closed Sunday, the day after the crash.
