Police say a teen driver from New Jersey, 62, was driving in the 25 mph zone in a crash that killed the mother of two

Police say security cameras captured an SUV speeding through her neighborhood at 65 miles per hour and running stop signs shortly before a crash killed a Bergen County mother.

Dymond T. Fryson, 40, died in the hospital a day after the speeding driver crashed into her vehicle at the intersection of Palmer and Sherman avenues in Teaneck just before 8 a.m. Jan. 25, authorities said.

Fryson's family said in a GoFundMe that the mother of two was returning home after dropping off her eldest daughter and niece at a nearby school. The accident occurred near the family's home in the 300 block of Sherman Avenue.

Alexander L. Vargas of Bogotá, who was 17 at the time of the accident, was charged as an adult with aggravated manslaughter, vehicular homicide and related charges, and numerous traffic law violations, court records show. He has now turned 18.

“A review of surveillance video and a reconstruction of the collision determined that Vargas was traveling at a high rate of speed at the time of the collision,” investigators said in a probable cause affidavit filed in support of the charges.

Police believe Vargas was driving at 62 mph through a 25 mph zone in a residential neighborhood, ran several stop signs before and at the time of the crash and was impaired by marijuana, authorities said.

“It was determined that Vargas drove his vehicle recklessly and with extreme indifference to the value of human life,” police wrote in the affidavit.

According to police, Vargas fled the scene before the accident.

Court records show that in addition to aggravated manslaughter and vehicular manslaughter, Vargas was also charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, endangering an injured victim, not having a driver's license and failing to report an accident.

Vargas was released to adult court and released to home confinement after a hearing. Attorney information for Vargas was not available in online court records Wednesday morning.

A GoFundMe aimed at helping Fryson's partner, a school principal in the Bronx, New York, and her two children had raised more than $65,000 as of Wednesday.

“Our beloved Dymond Fryson, a devoted mother to her two beautiful children and a loving guardian to her niece, tragically left us far too soon,” the GoFundMe reads.

According to the GoFundMe, Fryson's partner Isaiah Brown now has to take care of raising Fryson's girls and their dog alone.

“We're really seeking justice,” Brown said in an interview with ABC-7 in February. “We truly believe that Dymond’s life has value and meaning.”
