4 dead in crash in southeast Michigan

According to authorities, all occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident.

LENAWEE COUNTY, Mich. – A crash in Lenawee County killed four people Tuesday after a driver failed to stop at a stop sign, authorities said.

According to a news release from the Lenawee County Sheriff's Office, investigators discovered a Chevy Traverse was traveling south on Tipton Highway around 6:43 p.m. A Jeep Cherokee was traveling west on Shepherd Road and failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection Tipton and Shepherd hit the Traverse.

Both vehicles left the road at the intersection and came to a stop in a field.

The driver of the Traverse, an 83-year-old man, died in the crash along with his 79-year-old wife and 52-year-old daughter, who were also passengers in the vehicle, according to authorities.

The driver of the Jeep Cherokee was also killed in the accident. Authorities said in the news release that alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the crash and everyone involved appeared to be wearing seatbelts.

Authorities said they were continuing to investigate the crash.
