Tyson Foods donates 40,000 pounds of protein to fight hunger in North Texas

The donation is scheduled for September 26th at NTFB

Tyson Foods, HEB and NextUp have teamed up to donate 40,000 pounds of protein to the North Texas Food Bank, serving 13 counties in North Texas, in recognition of Hunger Action Month.

According to the North Texas Food Bank, the donation will help provide tens of thousands of nutritious meals to those who face increasingly difficult decisions every day. The donation is scheduled for Thursday, September 26, 2024 at 3 p.m. at the North Texas Food Bank.

“We are so grateful for the support of companies like Tyson Foods, HEB and NextUp Texas, who recognize the growing problem of hunger and are looking for ways to help organizations address this complex problem,” said Stacy Stephenson, director of food procurement at the North Texas Food Bank in an official statement. “Your generosity will help advance our mission to close the hunger gap in North Texas during this critical time and beyond.”

In 2022 alone, Tyson Foods donated 18 million pounds of food, including 10 million pounds of protein, to hunger relief partner Feeding America and its network of 200 food banks, 60,000 partner agencies, food banks and meal programs.

Hunger relief has also been the focus of HEB since the first store opened in 1905. Through the Hunger Relief Program, HEB has donated over 1 billion pounds of food to help feed neighbors in Texas and Mexico. The HEB Food Bank Assistance Program supports 18 Feeding America food banks within the Texas Food Bank Network and 13 food banks in the Mexican Association of Food Banks, all committed to fighting hunger and malnutrition.

“HEB is proud to partner with Tyson Foods and the North Texas Food Bank on this donation that will provide families with much-needed protein,” said Danny Flores, public affairs manager for Hunger Relief at HEB. “The HEB Hunger Relief Program has donated more than a billion pounds of food to nonprofits in Texas and Mexico, and this donation further demonstrates the importance of working together to combat hunger in our communities.”
