The ending of Joker: Folie à Deux, which director Todd Phillips said would divide viewers, has leaked online

Now that reviews are coming in, important details about it are emerging Joker: Folie a Deux come to light, especially regarding the ending. Director Todd Phillips has already revealed that Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix) isn't the real Joker – as if we didn't get it yet – and that's significant for the sequel's finale.

We have a spoiler alert at this point for those who are interested, but moving on: We hear that Arthur supposedly dies either in an explosion or at the hands of an Arkham inmate. The explosion occurred at the courthouse, as shown in clips released by Warner Bros. on social media. Arthur is caught in the explosion, but there is evidence that he survives.

So Fleck's downfall could actually occur in Arkham, where he will be reinstated. According to ComicBookMovie, he is stabbed as a “joke” by an unknown patient, played by Jacob Lofland (Mud, the maze runner).

It is then said that Lofland gives himself a “Glasgow smile”, similar to Heath Ledger's The Dark Knight. Note that this does not mean joker Films are in some way a prequel to Christopher Nolan's films.

However, this ending could suggest that the unofficial mantle of Clown Prince is passing to someone else, who could later become the true Joker. Or he could just be second if the three joker theory is true.

Regardless of whether there is a handoff or not, the ending displeases some viewers, which Phillips observes.

“For the people who have seen this movie in general… at the end they sit there and don't move for about three to five minutes,” he told Slash Film. “Then they text me, those who know me, or email me and say, 'I need a minute to process the film.'”

“I think it's going to be very disturbing to you… I think it's disturbing,” Phillips added, clarifying, “a lot of things that you may have had questions about in the first film. I hope it all gets answered.”
