Two people were arrested during a traffic stop in Williamson County

CREAL SPRINGS, Ill. (KFVS) – Two people are in custody following a traffic stop in Williamson County, Illinois.

According to the Williamson County Sheriff's Office, on Tuesday, October 1, at 11:44 p.m., officers observed a vehicle traveling east on Keely Street in Creal Springs committing multiple traffic violations.

A traffic stop was conducted and the occupants were identified as James D. Long of Harrisburg and Andrea M. Bozarth of Creal Springs. Long was found to have two outstanding warrants and was driving while his license was revoked.

While taking inventory of the vehicle, officers discovered a digital scale and drug paraphernalia containing residue that tested positive for methamphetamine during field testing.

Long was also found to be a felon in unlawful possession of firearm ammunition.

The sheriff's office says the vehicle contained many items of interest, including several car radios with cords cut, home items and other personal items, which were photographed and forwarded to detectives for further examination.

Officers conducting a more detailed search of the vehicle discovered a magnetic secret compartment, also known as a “hide-a-box,” attached to the metal frame rail under the vehicle near the driver's door.

The “Hide-a-Box” contained several bags of a white crystal-like substance and numerous smoking devices. The substance contained in the bags later tested positive for methamphetamine at the scene.

Long has been cited for the following:

  • False or secret compartment
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Driving with a suspended license
  • There is no signaling when necessary
  • Disobeying a stop sign
