The video of the 1.90 meter tall Olivier Rioux with teammates from Florida goes viral

Olivier Rioux has arrived.

Don't you see him? Look it up.

Even Florida's 7-foot-1 incumbent center, Micah Handlogten, has to do it.

Rioux, the 7-foot-9 teenager (teenager!), was seen working the layup line with his new Florida Gators teammates in a video released Tuesday.

Rioux trotted to the end of the line and threw high-fives to the right, then to the left and then, for Handlogten, up.

Handlogten, a sophomore, had some good airtime at the two-handed connection. Luckily for him, this wasn't a rebound exercise.

Rioux, previously named the world's tallest teenager by Guinness Records – age: 16, height: 7-foot-5 – committed to the Gators during his senior year at IMG Academy.

He thinks it's in the genes.

“We're still not 100 percent sure why I'm so tall… Doctors could only explain it with my family's genetics,” Rioux said in an interview with Guinness.

The Canadian-born true freshman's mother, a former volleyball player, is 1.85 meters tall. Rioux's father is up to 1.90 meters tall. And his brother, a former hooper himself, is 6 feet 3 inches tall.

For Rioux, a three-star prospect according to 247sports, turning heads is nothing new.

The center helped Canada win the bronze medal at the 2024 U18 FIBA AmeriCup – averaging 4.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game.

When Rioux suits up for Florida this fall, he will officially become the greatest college basketball player in history – and easily.

Former 7-foot-7 record holders Kenny George and Mike Lanier were never able to crack NBA rosters. And if Rioux makes it to the league, he can also add the title of “greatest NBA player” in history to his resume.

For now, however, the focus remains on the Gators' basketball.

Florida opens its season in just over a month at the Jacksonville Sports Foundation Invitational against South Florida on November 4th.

Rioux is likely behind Handlogten on Florida's center depth chart, who started 32 of the Gators' 33 games during the 2023-24 season.

On the other hand, you can't teach range.
