Pedestrian struck and killed on interstate – NBC Chicago

Some traffic congestion and delays remain Tuesday morning after a pedestrian was struck and killed on I-294 following a two-vehicle collision near Western Springs.

Around 4:20 a.m., a passenger vehicle became disabled in the left southbound lane of I-294 near I-55 in Western Springs and a pedestrian was outside the vehicle, Illinois State Police said.

The vehicle and pedestrian were struck by a truck-semi-trailer combination vehicle, and the pedestrian was dead at the scene, ISP said.

NBC traffic reporter Kye Martin noted that the crash violated the state's “Scott's Law,” which requires drivers to change lanes or stop when approaching police or an emergency vehicle stopped in the roadway.

An investigation is ongoing, authorities said.

As of 7 a.m., Total Traffic reported that two lanes were blocked due to the crash and traffic was “solidly” backed up between North Avenue and Plainfield Road.
