A 31-year-old Hemmingford, Que., man already in custody in connection with the death of his partner has now been charged with second-degree murder.

The victim, a 29-year-old woman, was reported missing on September 21st.

Last Thursday, the victim's body was found in a wooded area near her residence. The 31-year-old man was arrested by provincial police the same day.

The following day he appeared at the Salaberry-de-Valleyfield courthouse to face charges of indignity to a human body.

The man will appear in court later Wednesday to answer a charge of second-degree murder. A domestic violence protest is expected to take place outside the courthouse.

Hemmingford is a small town just minutes from the United States border.

CBC News is not naming the defendant because of a publication ban to protect the identity of the victim and a child.
