Astros Tigers Live Score Game 2 Playoffs: Highlights, Channel, Updates

The Detroit Tigers enter Wednesday's decisive Game 2 against the Houston Astros, one win away from advancing to the MLB playoffs.

The Tigers are 1-0 heading into Game 2 of the AL Wild Card Series at Minute Maid Park in Houston. They took a 3-0 lead in Game 1, but then, thanks to a tight performance from Tarik Skubal and the bullpen, they held on until the end and won 3-1.

Remembering what got Detroit into the playoffs, manager AJ Hinch played with Tyler Holton as the opener and bullpen for Game 2. Holton pitched one inning before being replaced by Brenan Hanifee, who lasted 1⅔ innings before striking out Brant Hurter the bullpen gave it away. Hurter pitched 1⅔ innings before Beau Brieske entered the game in the fifth inning. Brieske made it in the sixth round before giving up Jackson Jobe in the seventh round.

The Tigers trail the Astros 2-1 in the eighth inning. Detroit took the lead in the top of the sixth inning with a solo home run by Parker Meadows. Meadows converted an inside fastball and pushed it into the foul pole to start the inning and give the Tigers the lead. Jobe loaded the bases with a walk, bunt single and hit by pitch, then the Astros tied the game with an infield single and took the lead with a sacrifice fly.

Houston started Detroit native (Lakeview High School in St. Clair Shores) and Wayne State graduate Hunter Brown in Game 2. Brown, a right-handed pitcher, was 11-9 with a 3-49 ERA in 30 starts. Brown was retired after 5⅔ innings after giving up the home run to Meadows, but shut out the Tigers up to that point, holding them to two hits with nine strikeouts.

First pitch is scheduled for 2:32 p.m. The game will air on ABC and be available to stream on Fubo (free trial). According to BetMGM, the Astros are the favorite in Game 2 (-185 money line) over the Tigers (+150 money line), giving the Astros a roughly 61% chance of winning and a 39% chance of the Tigers winning.

End 7: The Astros knock off Jackson Jobe and lead 2-1

AJ Hinch went rookie out of the bullpen, but the gamble backfired and the Astros now have the lead.

Jobe's third MLB appearance came in the seventh inning and he loaded the bases with no outs with a hit via pitch, walk and bunt single. Jon Singleton hit a ground ball between Spencer Torkelson and Colt Keith, and Torkelson threw it to the ground and tried to bring the runner home, but Jake Rogers couldn't hold on to the bouncing ball to tie the game. On the next at-bat, Jose Altuve flew into foul territory in short right field, but Matt Vierling couldn't throw out Mauricio Andre Dubón, who was moving from third base. Then Sean Guenther came in and forced an inning-ending double play to break the jam.

Late 6th: Parker Meadows hits a solo shot to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead

The Tigers' X-factor is coming to the fore again. Parker Meadows converted an inside fastball from Hunter Brown and sent it flying 358 feet down the right field line over the fence, giving the Tigers their first lead of the game. It was only the Tigers' second goal, but it was strong enough to take the lead.

Brieske left the Astros shortly thereafter after walking Yordan Alvarez to start the inning. Alex Bregman singled to left field, then Yainer Diaz grounded out to shortstop on an inning-ending double play.

End of 5th: Brieske comes in and shoots one, Tigers scoreless; The game was tied at 0

Brant Hurter gave up a single and was relieved after a fielder's choice for Beau Brieske. Brieske had Jose Altuve fly out on the first pitch and struck out Kyle Tucker with a perfectly placed 99 mph fastball on the outside corner to leave Chas McCormick stranded at second.

Trey Sweeney got a two-out walk for Detroit and reached second with a steal, but Jake Rogers couldn't get him in and struck out on an outside slider.

End of 4th: The Tigers' bats are quiet again, Hurter sets two of them; The game was tied at 0

The Tigers were defeated in the order of 1-2-3 by Hunder Brown in the third inning of four tries.

Brant Hurter put two on base and one out with a single and struck out a batter, but got Jeremy Pena to ground out to shortstop on an inning-ending double play against Trey Sweeney.

End 3: Hunter Brown throws two strikeouts, Tigers swap pitchers again; The game was tied at 0

The Tigers struggle against Brown's sinker, changeup and curveball mix. He finished the third striking out Parker Meadows and Kerry Carpenter, earning as many as five strikeouts in the first three innings.

Below, the Tigers' pitching chaos continued. Brenan Hanifee retired the first two batters, including striking out Jose Altuve, then Hinch walked Brant Hurter to face left-handers Kyle Tucker and Yordan Alvarez. After a walk, he managed to knock Alvarez out of the field.

End 2: Tigers and Astros threaten, but neither capitalizes, it's tied at 0

Hunter Brown appeared to break through the middle of the Tigers' lineup, but Spencer Torkelson managed to keep the inning alive on a throwing error by Jose Altuve with two outs. Zach McKinstry followed with a double to left center to put runners on second and third, but Trey Sweeney ended the inning with a groundout.

At the end of the second, Hinch went to the bullpen and had Brenan Hanifee as the first reliever. Hanifee gave up a leadoff single to Alex Bregman, but then seemed to settle with two quick outs. But he accompanied Jeremy Pena to throw two balls and then had an eight-pitch affair with Jason Heyward. Heyward hit two screws on the screws but drew them into foul and Heyward finished the attack with a strikeout on a high fastball.

End 1: Tigers and Astros go down in order 1-2-3, tied at 0

The Tigers' first two batters, Parker Meadows and Kerry Carpenter, made good contact but recorded a line out and a flyout, then Matt Vierling struck out.

Tyler Holton got Jose Altuve to come to third on a nice play by Zach McKinstry, hit Kyle Tucker on the hands with an inside sinker, then had Yordan Alvarez roll to second via a sweeper for a seven-pitch -Stop rackets.

The Tigers will have most of their pitching available after Skubal's strong start led them to victory on Tuesday. After Holton, the entire bullpen is likely to be available except for Will Vest, who pitched scoreless 1⅔ innings in relief yesterday.

The Tigers will also be able to play their preferred lineup at the plate against the right-handed Brown. Kerry Carpenter and Colt Keith, who both came off the bench as pinch hitters in Game 1 to avoid Framber Valdez, are back in the lineup and Kerry Carpenter returns to the starting spot.

Astros hitters were quiet for eight innings in Game 1, but woke up late and unleashed a frightening shock throughout Michigan. Houston couldn't capitalize with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning, but suffered a missed pitch from Beau Brieske or a fumble from Spencer Torkelson after a dramatic walk-off win.

The Tigers will have two chances today and tomorrow (if necessary) to complete the best-of-three Wild Card Series to advance to the ALDS and face the Cleveland Guardians. However, Houston is no stranger to difficult moments in October, and these young Tigers need to close out their first playoff series. The Astros are trying to maintain their streak of reaching their eighth straight AL Championship Series.
