Ancelotti: “If there is no risk, Mbappe will play from the first minute”

Carlo Ancelotti spoke to the media ahead of Real Madrid's game against Lille in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday. Ancelotti covered a wide range of topics, but the most popular was the availability of Kylian Mbappe, to which he said: “Mbappé was overloaded. Now, with the new technologies, we are talking about class one, class two… It used to be an overload and in less than a week he has recovered well. He wanted to travel to play. We'll see how he trains today. When he is at his best, he can play. If there is no risk, he will play from the first minute. He recovered very well and very quickly. He trained yesterday and today he will complete the full training with us. After that we will make the decision together because the last thing we want is to take risks.”

Ancelotti on the importance of this game

“We have to add points taking into account the value of our opponents. They are a team that plays very well. They like to play with the ball, they have young and good players. You have to fight for every game. That's why we're here. We're fine. We are convinced that we can improve. We are ready. There’s still a lot of games left, but we’re doing pretty well.”

Ancelotti on Simeone's quotes about demanding a sanction for Courtois

“I respect everyone’s opinion. The problem is clear. There was violence at the game and violent people are not allowed in football or in society. I try to respect everyone's opinions, but everyone saw what happened. And it just means that there should be no violent people in football and in society.”

Ancelotti on the statements after the game

“To talk about other things is to deviate from your point of view. The point is that there can be no violent people in football. Not at Atleti, in any area. Football doesn't need them. Let them stay somewhere else where it's not dangerous. I'm speaking in general terms. Whether it's a violent person from Madrid, Barça, Atleti, Villarreal doesn't matter. Leave the violent people alone.”

Ancelotti on Courtois' reaction

“I am respectful and responsive, but reacting to Courtois' behavior when he was shouted 'die' at during the game is a distraction. There’s nothing else to say.”

Ancelotti on Lille

“It's a great club, they've done very well and great players have come through here. They compete in Europe, I have great affection for Olivier Letang, I have affection for him.”

Ancelotti on Modric as Kroos' replacement

“We find that he can replace Kroos, that's true. We have to prepare for his absence. For me he was the best player in the derby. For me Kroos is irreplaceable, we will find a way to play without him. The team has new qualities. At the moment we have not yet shown our full potential, but I am convinced that we will show our best level very soon.”

Ancelotti on Güler

“He played more during this time than last year. He did it well. He's making progress. I don't have to tell him anything. He knows his role here: he has a future and is part of the team. He works like everyone else. Sometimes he plays and sometimes he doesn’t.”
