Woman dies after accident in Nebraska

A 36-year-old woman died after a two-vehicle crash in Platte County Wednesday morning. Officers responded to East 83rd Street and East 14th Avenue around 7:35 a.m. for the crash. The Platte County Sheriff's Office said initial reports indicated the vehicle was occupied by an unresponsive person and the other occupants of the vehicle had exited the vehicle, but it was on fire. According to investigators, a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu driven by the 36-year-old woman was traveling southbound when it struck the driver's side door of a westbound 2012 Buick Enclave driven by a juvenile. Both vehicles left the road after the collision and came to rest in a field southwest of the intersection, authorities said. The woman driving the Malibu was removed from the vehicle by first responders. She was taken to a local hospital where she died, the Platte County Sheriff's Office said. Her name is being withheld until family can be notified. According to authorities, the Enclave's teen driver and teen passenger were able to exit the vehicle before it caught fire. Investigators said the woman driving the Malibu did not use seat belts and that seat belt use by Enclave occupants was unknown at this time. Authorities said airbags deployed in the Malibu. The Platte County Sheriff's Office said alcohol was not a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation. Click here for the latest headlines from KETV NewsWatch 7
