  • The Jackson Democrat is reportedly naming the disgraced former chairman of the campaign planning committee

JACKSON, NJ - Jackson City Council candidate Hope Drew is running under the slogan "Conservative Common Sense," but an investigation finds she is neither conservative nor common sense.

Drew, a lifelong registered Democrat, is not a “conservative” or a “Republican” according to New Jersey voter registration records, according to state and county voter registration records. Records show she has been a registered Democrat for more than a decade. She did not change her party affiliation to Republican until August.

Her common sense is being questioned because she reportedly hired Tzvi Herman, the former chairman of the Jackson Township Planning Board who resigned amid allegations of political corruption and bribery, to help her with her political campaign.

Herman served as chairman of the Jackson Planning Board until he was asked to resign amid allegations that he solicited bribes from officials, developers and community professionals in exchange for positive results and influence within the board.

Herman is also a Democratic activist who led the Cinderella-style victory campaign for Rabbi Avi Schnall, a Lakewood resident and chairman of Agudath Israel of America in New Jersey, who defeated Republicans for a seat in the New Jersey Assembly last year . Herman is also an editor at Jackson Pulse. This local community magazine came under fire this year for harshly criticizing Christianity and Christmas celebrations in the community and pushing a pro-development agenda in its editorials.

Township officials declined to comment on the matter, with an elected official saying only, "This matter has been brought to our attention and is pending possible investigation and we cannot discuss or comment on it." Mr. Herman is no longer a member of the Planning Board."

Herman was also accused of using his role as editor of the Jackson Pulse to influence support for major developments throughout Jackson. He is also being sued over an alleged conflict over his role in a private school application recently filed before the Planning Board.

Drew has not commented on her alleged connection to Herman or Herman's involvement in her political campaign. However, Shore News Network has confirmed that Herman is standing up for Drew.

It has also been suggested that Herman is working for Drew because he considers her to be "employable", in the sense that if elected, she can be persuaded to support Herman's plans for the future. Sources confirmed this week that Herman has pushed for a bloc vote for Drew in the November election, and Drew knows she needs the community's votes to win in November.
