Ex-husband arrested for murder of Maryland wife and boyfriend

A Florida man was arrested Saturday on suspicion of murder in connection with the killing Murders this summer his ex-wife and her boyfriend at their home in Maryland, where the woman's four children hid in the house for hours.

David Phillip Turner, 33, is being extradited on suspicion of murder in the shootings of Crimea Malita Baker, 33, and Sean Lange, 34, in what Frederick County Sheriff Chuck Jenkins described as “Crimes of anger and rage.”

Turner is the father of three of Baker's four children, Jenkins said. Lange was the father of the fourth boy, who was born earlier this year.

Jenkins said the gunman fired more than 42 shots at the couple, whose bodies were found in their bed by officers who arrived at their New Market home around 7 a.m. on Aug. 25.

Crimea Baker and Sean Lange.

In a news conference Monday, Jenkins said officers believed Turner sneaked into a back door of the home sometime after 1 a.m. and that the couple was shot around 1:25 a.m

The children, ages 13 and younger, told officers they waited for hours before they felt safe enough to come out of hiding. They were not injured in the shooting, authorities said.

“This was a heinous, targeted double murder, a crime of rage and fury,” Jenkins said in a statement after the killings.

Turner, a Miami resident, was arrested on a Fort Lauderdale beach about 6:20 p.m. Saturday, Jenkins said. Multiple law enforcement agencies assisted in the investigation, including the Fort Lauderdale Police Department and the FBI.

Jenkins said the children are currently staying with relatives.

“They are devastated, their lives will never be the same, but they are with their family and safe,” he said.

Baker had previously posted online that she was a victim of domestic violence and was seeking an attorney to assist her in her divorce and custody proceedings. Most recently, she posted happy photos of milestones and vacations with her children. “Most blessed for new beginnings and enlightened transitions,” she wrote in a post shortly before her death.

At a fundraiser to support Lange's children, which include three daughters who were not living with him at the time of the shootings, he was described as hard-working and generous.

“Sean was a man who loved deeply and lived passionately,” the fundraiser said. “He was known for his warm heart, his infectious smile and the way he could light up a room just by being in it.”

Turner also is suspected of trespassing and firearms charges in connection with the murders, Jenkins said. He is currently being held at the Broward County Sheriff's Office jail in Florida, awaiting extradition to Maryland, which could take several weeks.

It is unclear whether Turner has an attorney representing him.

HuffPost reached out to the Frederick County Sheriff's Office and the Frederick County District Attorney's Office but did not receive an immediate response.
