No. 4 QB Deuce Knight recommits to Auburn

Four-star quarterback Deuce Knight has switched his commitment from Notre Dame to Auburn.

Knight, who attends George County High School in Lucedale, Miss., announced his decision on social media Wednesday. He had been committed to Notre Dame since September 18, 2023.

“Coach (Hugh) Freeze, he believes we can both do something special with the offense,” Knight told Auburn Live. “We’re both boys from Mississippi. He says I should come to Alabama and take over college football.”

Knight's commitment to Auburn comes after an official visit last weekend. It was the fourth visit to Auburn this season and the fifth since July 31.

Freeze played a large role in Knight's involvement. The same was true for Kenyatta Watson, director of recruiting research and strategy at Auburn.

Freeze and Knight were both from Mississippi and helped create a lasting bond between the coach and the recruit.

“Coach Freeze, he understands where I’m coming from,” Knight said. “He understands the place where I grew up; How you have to try to get everything you want because [we’re] from Mississippi. You have to make the most of the opportunities that are available to you. So I feel like that's something we have in common. We both understand where we grew up.”

Knight also believes he will fit well into Freeze's offensive system.

“I definitely think I could come in and fit in really well on offense,” he said. “When you try to look at schools, you look at who is in the quarterback room and what players they have coached in the past. Coach Freeze was training Malik Williswho is now in the NFL. I think I do some similar things to Malik Willis.”

And it didn't hurt that Cam Newton won a national title and the Heisman Trophy at Auburn.

“Auburn is a great place historically,” he said. “My favorite player of all time, he went to school there. Cam Newton.

“Auburn is a great place, great fans, it will be packed every Saturday.”

According to On3, Knight is the No. 6 quarterback in the country and the No. 32 recruit overall. He is also considered the No. 2 recruit in Mississippi.

Knight is the 25th commit in Auburn's 2025 class.

More on Knight from On3

His size and quick reaction make him difficult to beat in the backcourt. Promotes a strong downfield arm. Shows ability to fit throws into tight windows in the middle of the field. Showed significant improvement as a passer in the offseason before his senior year after working with a private trainer for a few months. It's still a work in progress, but offers plenty of opportunity to continue improving through ongoing coaching and in-game repetition.

Had a troubled junior season and transferred to Lipscomb Academy in Nashville, Tennessee, before returning to Greene County just a few games into the season. Must transfer his offseason progress to the field on Friday night. He needs to establish his accuracy improvements while continuing to improve his decision-making and unlock his immense potential as an athletic playmaker.

An outstanding three-sport athlete with multiple state championship titles in the long jump and high jump as well as basketball. Has one of the highest upside potential regardless of its position in the 2025 cycle, but is still considered a development prospect.
