Kelly Monaco taped the final episode of “General Hospital,” her mother says

Your shift is finally over.

General Hospital star Kelly Monaco has left the show after more than two decades, according to her mother.

On September 27, her mother Carmina Monaco posted on Instagram that 48-year-old Monaco had just taped her final episode of the long-running ABC soap.

“I would like to take this moment to reach out to Kelly's incredible fans and express my deepest gratitude for the unwavering love, loyalty and support you have shown her during her time on General Hospital,” Carmina wrote on Friday, per Deadline social media.

She continued: “On this final day, just four days before the anniversary of her first episode on October 1, 2003, Kelly will close her dressing room door for the last time. This moment is difficult, but knowing that she has such an incredible, loyal fan base has given her strength.”

Her mother added: “You stood by her through every turn, celebrated her successes and comforted her through the difficult times.” Her love and dedication meant more than words can express, not just for Kelly, but for us everyone who cares so deeply about her.”

She ended her post by thanking fans “for being there, believing in her and reminding them of the impact she made.” We will always be grateful for supporting her through all of this stand by the situation.”

Fans took to her mother's Instagram comments to express their dismay.

“I've been watching GH for over 46 years and there has never been a character that made me like Sam. She let my girl fan her from day one. Another commented: “No more GH for me, I'm siding with Kelly.”

An angry fan wrote on “Firing Kelly Monaco after 21 years and the last few years, during which she has completely ignored her character and her above-average talent, is absolutely disgusting behavior.”

Monaco has appeared in the series for over 20 years since 2003. She appeared in over 2,000 episodes and won two Daytime Emmys.

In 2023, while celebrating her 20th anniversary on “General Hospital,” Monaco told Soap Opera Digest, “GH is such a legendary show and I consider it my second home.” Every day as I drive to the parking lot , it’s a great honor for me to be part of it.”

In August, Soap Opera Network broke the news of Monaco's departure, reporting that the actress was “blindsided” by the show's decision to write her off. At this point, her exact exit date was not yet known.

That same month, fans started a Change.org petition titled “Keep Kelly Monaco in the cast of General Hospital,” which has so far had over 16,000 signatures.

Fans have also created the hashtags #SaveKelly and #IStandWithKelly to campaign for the show to keep her.

Earlier this month, fans even took the #IStandWithKelly campaign into the show's studios and drove around the venue in a promotional van.

Monaco previously appeared on “Baywatch” and in 2005 she won the inaugural Mirrorball trophy for the first season of “Dancing With the Stars.”

She returned for the show's “All-Star” season in 2012. Monaco and her partner Val Chmerkovskiy took third place.

Chmerkovskiy, 38, later made a cameo appearance as a boxer on “General Hospital.”

The show follows the lives of citizens in the fictional town of Port Charles, New York.

Monaco starred Sam McCall, the daughter of mafia boss Julian Jerome (William deVry) and lawyer Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn), whom they gave up for adoption. She initially came to the city as a fraudster.

Monaco also appeared in the spin-off series Port Charles, playing another character, Livvie Locke.

The Post reached out to representatives from “General Hospital” and Monaco for comment.
