Pete Alonso trips over his own bat on Mets' ballfight-destroying double play

The Mets had already scored a run in the first inning against the Brewers on Wednesday night and were ready for more.

But Pete Alonso ended a rally with a bizarre double play that left him barely halfway to the first base line because of his own bat in Game 2 of the NL Wild Card Series at American Family Field.

With runners on the corners and one out, Alonso, the Mets' All-Star, hit a 110.1 mph groundball to Brewers shortstop Willy Adames, which helped set up a routine double play that Alonso hit barely crossed the line.

The reason why?

After Alonso put down his racket, he tripped over it with his right foot and fell headfirst into the dirt.

It was a bizarre end to the inning, with the Brewers answering right back with a home run from Jackson Chourio in the bottom half.

However, the Mets scored two goals in the second period to take a 3-1 lead.
