On a night when Inter Miami is poised to win its first-ever MLS Supporters Shield, it just had to be Messi, who scored twice just before halftime to give the Herons the lead against the highly touted Columbus Crew side.

In a game where there was little action in front of goal, Messi let the ball slide over the goal line before firing past Patrick Schulte.

But the former Barcelona talisman wasn't finished there.

Five minutes later, Messi did what Messi does in dead-ball situations and sent a free kick around the Crew wall to double Miami's lead.

They were the 842nd and 843rd goals of an illustrious career, with Messi registering 27 MLS goal contributions (17 goals and 10 assists) in just 17 appearances for Tata Martino's men this season.
