Apple event 2024: Leak suggests M4 MacBook with more RAM and improved ports

Apple is reportedly gearing up for the highly anticipated event in October 2024, where the California-based tech giant is expected to unveil a new range of M4-powered MacBooks and updated iPads. Leaked information about the MacBook's retail packaging has surfaced, giving a glimpse into the possible specifications of the device.

This leak, first shared by ShrimpApplePro on X (formerly Twitter), was also reported by Tom's Guide. However, since the origin of the packaging remains uncertain, the details should be treated with caution until official confirmation from Apple.

If the leaked images are correct, Apple is preparing to unveil a 14-inch MacBook model with an M4 chip, 16GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. In particular, the jump to 16GB of RAM represents a significant change, as previous MacBook models often started with 8GB. This memory expansion is expected to improve multitasking capabilities and make the device more suitable for pro and power users in line with the needs of a 2024 “Pro” laptop.

M4 chip and connectivity upgrades

The rumored specs for the M4 chip say a 10-core CPU paired with a 10-core GPU, offering a notable performance increase over the M3 chip's 8-core CPU and 10-core GPU configuration. If these specs hold true, users could see improved processing power and graphics capabilities, making the new MacBook more efficient for intensive tasks.

Additionally, the leaked packaging hints at an additional Thunderbolt 4 port, bringing the total number of USB-C ports to three. This could offer users more flexibility in peripherals and data transfer, appealing to professionals who rely on multiple devices and high-speed connections.

Speculation about the authenticity of the leak

Despite the excitement, there is some skepticism about the authenticity of the leak. A key point of contention is the use of the term “Apple ID” instead of “Apple Account,” a branding change Apple has made in recent years. The reappearance of “Apple ID” on the packaging of a brand new product raises doubts and suggests that further confirmation is needed.

ShrimpApplePro also shared more images of the packaging on X, reportedly from a private Facebook group. While these photos don't offer any new specs, they have added to the discussion about the legitimacy of the leak.
