Viral Video of Students Singing; NOT related to the recent bus accident in Thailand!

On October 1, amid global celebrations of World Children's Day, news of a fatal bus accident in Thailand that killed 20 children and three teachers sent shockwaves across the world.

Amid the shock and grief across the country and the world, a video went viral showing a group of children singing on a bus, said to be footage of the unhappy students before the incident.

Social media post

A video of kindergarten students singing on a bus purports to show the students involved in the tragic bus accident in Thailand. The video quickly spread across social media platforms, garnering numerous shares and comments expressing sadness and condolences.

Many Facebook, TikTok and other social media users shared these posts.

Fact check

Our investigation revealed that the origin of the video can be traced back to TikTok user “LukMhe2540” (Jirawan Mesan), a kindergarten teacher. She clarified that the video featured students from Nakhon Sri Thammarat, not the Uthai Thani students involved in the accident.

The original post, now set to private, was uploaded days before the tragic incident.

In addition, according to the report, the students involved in the accident were mainly elementary school students, including only six kindergarten students. This is different from the viral video that only shows kindergarten students on the bus.

We also found discrepancies in the uniform of the students in the viral video and those who escaped the tragic accident, confirming that these were different incidents.

About the fatal bus accident

A bus carrying students and teachers caught fire after a tire burst and collided with a concrete barrier. The incident resulted in the deaths of 20 children and three teachers. The bus was returning from a school trip to Bangkok. The driver initially tried to put out the fire, but fled the scene. He later turned himself in to the police. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The use of compressed natural gas as a fuel is being critically questioned due to its potential risks.

Summary

The viral video purporting to show the students involved in the tragic bus accident in Thailand is false. In fact, kindergarten students from Nakhon Sri Thammarat can be seen in the video. It was published days before the incident and has no connection to the recent tragedy. The actual accident mainly involved primary school children from Uthai Thani, including only a few kindergarten children.
