Shots were fired during the fight on central Syngrou Avenue


Police in Athens are investigating a gunfight in the early hours of Thursday on the central Syngrou Avenue.

The investigation comes after two men in their 20s showed up on a motorcycle at Asklipeio Hospital in the southern Athens suburb of Voula seeking medical help.

One of the men, 27, was treated for a gunshot wound to the arm, while the other, 22, suffered blows to the face and head. A doctor at the hospital called police to report the gunshot wound.

According to preliminary information, the two young men got into an argument with two other men who were sitting in a car. One of the two appeared to have drawn a gun and fired it. They drove away after the altercation and are being sought.

The incident happened around 3 a.m. on a side street off Syngrou Avenue in the suburb of Nea Smyrni

Police are examining surveillance camera footage in the area to shed more light on the incident.
