Man arrested in connection with 1980 Sacramento murder case

An arrest has been made in a murder case that has been unsolved for more than four decades, according to Sacramento police. Helen Terry was found dead with stab wounds in her Sacramento apartment on August 28, 1980. She lived in the apartment on Wyndham Drive with her one-year-old son, believed to be Robert Terry's biological child. Robert denied that the child was his and was involved in a paternity suit by Helen over child support. When Helen was found dead, there was no one in the apartment with her except her son. Sacramento police said there was insufficient evidence at this time to identify or charge a suspect in Helen's death. The case was reopened in 2016 as part of the department's cold case initiative. According to police, Robert Terry was identified as the suspect after the crime lab processed evidence from the crime scene. More evidence was needed to charge him. This year, the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office worked with Sacramento police to reinvestigate the case. Investigators were able to find enough evidence to charge a suspect and on Friday, September 27, Robert Terry was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail. He is accused of murder.
