“I would like to see JD Vance debate Kamala Harris,” another added, noting that it would be interesting to see him face an opponent who, like his wife, has Indian roots. Who won the vice president debate between Vance and Walz?

The debate was notable for its focus on substantive issues, a sharp contrast to the previous presidential debate between Harris and Trump, which was dominated by personal attacks. The senator was quite outspoken about how he had always criticized Donald Trump and admitted he was actually wrong, but dodged any questions about Trump's claims that Biden stole the 2020 election.

Both candidates spoke about abortion, with Walz sticking to his record as governor of Minnesota and Vance trying to find a middle ground consistent with Trump's views during his campaign. Trump then said on Truth Social that he would definitely veto a nationwide abortion ban, reversing his previous views.

When asked whether they would support a surprise attack by Israel on Iran, both candidates spoke about how important it is for Israel to defend itself, without giving a clear answer. While Helene addressed the devastating storm, the vice presidents even had different opinions on climate change and how to combat climate change.

The candidates agreed that the number of illegal immigrants in the United States is a problem, but each blamed the opposing presidential candidate. Overall, both Vance and Walz improved their public image, as more viewers expressed a positive opinion of Vance after the debate than before.
